San Francisco ICT Pathways Project Launched
On April 20, 2012, the Mid-Pacific ICT Center (MPICT.org)
and California Community College ICT Collaborative (CCCICT.org)
kicked off a project to create K-12 and community to college
to work pathways in ICT fields and programs in San
Francisco. This effort is funded by the
BATEC
National ATE Center and also supported by the California
Department of Education.
According to an April 5, 2012 San Francisco Chronicle
article:
"Tech workers make up an increasing
share of the city's workforce. This year nearly 1 in 4
nongovernment office jobs in San Francisco - 22.3 percent
- are in tech. In 2000, tech jobs accounted for just 14.5
percent of the jobs.”
ICT is hot! The ICT Workforce currently employs 1 in 20
private sector employees in California. On average, these
roles pay twice the median wages in the State; job growth is
strong; and employers are reporting difficulty finding
appropriately skilled workers, even in this period of high
unemployment.

Great Summer Faculty Development Week Participation!
This
quarter, MPICT and the California Community College ICT
Collaborative hosted two excellent Faculty
Development Week events:
Faculty development funding has dried up in most colleges in
this economic crisis. Yet, staying current with quickly
changing ICT technologies and teaching practices is
imperative for ICT teachers and programs to remain relevant.
We made these events FREE for
qualified instructors in CC ICT related programs, and we
helped faculty attend with stipends
or travel expense reimbursements.
