Kapi'olani Community College IT Program Director
Dr.
Singer has been working in the ICT field since 1988, when he
became the liaison between the Language Arts Department,
Computing Center, and the Learning Assistance Center at
Kapi’olani Community College. Since then, he worked in various
capacities at both KapCC and the University of Hawaii at Manoa,
as an IT specialist installing data lines throughout the
college, designing and managing labs, training faculty from
across the UH System on designing courses for Internet
delivery, and teaching IT courses.
Steve served as visiting faculty at Kansai Daigaku in Osaka,
Japan, at Nagasaki Women’s College in Nagasaki, Japan, at
Beijing Leung Hue Daxue, and at Beijing Daxue training
faculty, teaching students and designing departmental websites
in the 1990’s.
Now, he serves as the program coordinator of the IT Program at
Kapi’olani Community College. The program has over 140 majors,
conforms to the ACM IT curriculum and consists of an AS in IT
degree, four smaller certificates in programming, help desk
services, database administration, and achievement as well as
an Advanced Professional Certificate in IT. Students can
transfer up to 90 credits of the program towards a Bachelor’s
of Applied Science (BAS) with a Concentration in Information
Technology at UH West Oahu.
Steve lives in Honolulu, HI with his wife, Dana and son,
Joshua, and 3 year old Tibetan terrier, Buddy.
